Setting-in Stick
The setting-in stick is placed against the inside edge of the corner, and a mallet is used to hit it. This drives the lead sheet into the creases to reinforce the folds. This tool is essential for installing chimney flashing and a range of other lead-working applications.
Bossing Stick
Bossing sticks are designed to dress or boss the surface of the lead sheet using either positional or non-positional bossing techniques. Bossing is the process of gently beating lead in a way that shapes it but does not crinkle or damage it (the thickness of the lead should not decrease by more than 25%). It is a skill that requires training and practice.
Bending Stick
A bending stick, or bending dresser, is commonly used as an alternative to a bossing stick. Its slender shape makes the bending dresser an effective tool for more detailed bossing, where a more hefty bossing stick would not be suitable.
Dressing Stick
Lead dressing sticks can be used to work lead in a number of ways. They are primarily used to flatten sheet lead, but can also be used to set in folds in sheet metal before it is used for roof flashing.
